Majnoon got sick and a Doctor came to see him. After examining him the Doctor said he had to take a blood sample.
As soon as Majnoon felt the sharp tip of the needle, he shouted, “This was not necessary and even if I die I will not allow you to put this needle in me.”
Majnoon said, “I am not afraid of the needle or the injury, but
the whole of my being is filled with Laily.”
But my whole being is filled with Laily,
This shell is filled with the qualities of that pearl
I am afraid of you injecting me,
you would sting Laily (Rumi, Masnavi, Book 5, Part 79)
